UK - England to Wales

William the Conquerer's cousin established the Chepstow castle in 1067 and before his death in 1071 a benedictine priory was built on this site nearby. Little remains of the original building of St Marys. Most of the priory buildings were demolished in 1536 when Henry the V111 ordered the dissolution of all monasteries in Britain. What you see now has been restored in the 1700s and 1800s.
